Alpha Centauri was an inhabited planetary system. Located approximately four light years from Sol, this was a trinary system of three stars – Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B, and Proxima Centauri.

By the 24th century, the system's three inhabited planets and various space stations and outposts supported a population of over 21 billion sentient individuals.
